Parenting does not get any easier. It changes and evolves, but not easier.
Isn't true that your first child is like your experiament child? You try different things and see what works best and hopefully by your last child you've figured it out.
Having a teenager is kinda like having a two year old. They test you to see what they can get away with.
My oldest child is no different, He tests me with his language(not to bad) and talking back (which I do not deal with to well ). Homework is always a issue, why oh why can't he just turn in his homework on time! It would be easier for him and a lot less work. Constant battle! These are probably normal issues most people have with a 15 year old. I get that, I am just trying to figure out how to 'parent' a teenager. I remember when I was a kid and I would think "I will never do that to my child" Ummm....Ya.... About that.... I find myself saying things I SWORE I would never say to my kids! And I cringe every time I do it.
Did I really turn into my mother?!?
All this being said, my Oldest is actually a really good kid.
On days that I work early he sends me text messages saying he hopes I have a good day and that he loves me, he does his chores without even being asked and does not mind if I ask him to do something extra, he helps his sister with her homework and is always nice to her. He is also super creative and talented.
So let me get to why I even started this post in the first place. I was just thinking how fast time goes by and how many 'firsts' you have with your children. First smile, first word and so on.
We had a week full of 'firsts' and it doesn't happen as often when they get older.
Syd went to get his first haircut alone, no mom to help in the process. Just walked right over there (neighbor has a salon in her house) and told her what he wanted.
He had his first shaving experience. He's been working on this sweet sweet mustache, It kinda just looked like his lip was dirty. Well I guess it was time for it to go, because he was asking for a shaving lesson.
And lastly he had his first driving lesson! OMG, will he really be driving soon?!
It went pretty good, except for the starting part...Floor it! Oh, and the stopping part....Screech!
No, he did really good and is excited for his next lesson and to get his learners permit.......Eventually ;)
I do not doubt that he will be a wonderful man.
It's just surviving the teenage years that scare me!!
